See that clever image up top? I'm betting that you listen to more than a couple of those musical genres. Me too. At Richmond Independent Radio, you can hear virtually every one of those styles of music (and more) every week, with songs selected by music fans much like you, living right in your community, who have made themselves into experts and share their knowledge and enthusiasm with you for free. Did I mention that every DJ you hear on WRIR is an unpaid volunteer?

Or you could listen to a commercial radio station that plays maybe two of those genres over and over again. That's fine for an hour, but you'd better tune away after that before you start hearing the same songs over again! Or you could let Spotify or Apple Music's artificial intelligence algorithms find you some tunes. (Full disclosure: I'm a Spotify account holder as well.) I don't know about you, but I'll take a WRIR DJ over an AI app any day of the week, and twice on Sundays. (Especially on Sundays!) BTW, a basic Richmond Independent Radio $11 monthly membership costs the same as a Spotify or Apple Music subscription.

And that's just WRIR's music shows. Our news and public affairs programming provides information from the most local (fine-toothed coverage of Richmond's City Council and School Board) to the most global (Democracy Now reporting live from Gaza and Israel this week), covering subjects from race and gender to science and cooking to children's storytime and professional wrestling, providing points of view that are as broad as is our music programming.

Richmond Independent Radio does all of this 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with an all-volunteer staff of your neighbors who work every day to make our community a little bit smarter, a little bit more connected, a little bit more fulfilled, a little bit weirder.
