Let's Boogaloo, Vol. 6

ARTIST: various artists
TITLE: Let’s Boogaloo, Vol. 6: Explosive Deep Funk, Northern Soul And Dancefloor Jazz En El Barrio
LABEL: Record Kicks
Volume 6 of this always-stellar series is compiled by noted British cratedigger Dean Rudland (Take Me To The River: A Southern Soul Story), and his focus here is on producer/A&R man Bobby Marin, who was a major factor in the boogaloo and Latin-soul movements of the 60’s and early 70’s. These are mostly deep cuts, a few previously unreleased in fact, that add to the expanding catalog of excellent reissues from that era. Want covers? You’ve got tracks 1 (Sam & Dave) and 7 (War), en Espanol. How about some straight boogaloo? 10 is a great example. Latin soul, como no? Try 3, all about the very 60’s subject of hijacking a plane to Cuba. And while I don’t think they have anything to do with Bobby Marin, 6 and 10 are two outstanding (and very rare) examples of 70’s Caribbean funk, the former from St. Vincent and the latter from St. Maarten. A most worthwhile collection, and a lot cheaper and easier than trying to find these sides on eBay.
TOP TRACKS:    1    3    6    7    10    12
