Ry Cooder was born on March 15, 1947 in Santa Monica, California. Ry is one of my all-time favorite musicians and he's one of the primary inspirations for the Global A Go-Go radio program.
In the 1960s, Ry played with Captain Beefheart and the Rolling Stones; in the 70s he made a series of brilliant solo albums that brought all kinds of American vernacular sounds into rock; in the 80s he was one of the top soundtrack artists in Hollywood; in the 90s he introduced American listeners to a world of music from Africa, Cuba and India; and in the 21st century Ry has continued to be one of the most vital musicians on the planet.
