Live Radio -- WRIR 97.3 FM Richmond Indie Radio

Global A Go-Go originates in the studios of WRIR 97.3 FM Richmond Independent Radio in Richmond, Virginia, USA, from which it is usually broadcast live every Monday from 3 to 5 PM Eastern time.  You're looking at WRIR's Studio A, my home for two hours every week.

Richmond Independent Radio's mission is "to air underrepresented music, news and views to provide a platform for cultural diversity in Richmond."  We broadcast a mix of news, public affairs and music programming 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with a staff of over 150 volunteers.

We're licensed under the FCC's low-power FM (LPFM) program.  In addition to over sixty music programs, we also run Pacifica's Democracy Now!, a wide variety of independently-distributed news and talk shows and more than twenty public affairs programs that are produced right here at WRIR.

All of our music programs are produced locally and, under normal circumstances, originate live in WRIR's studios.  These days it seems nothing is more unrepresented than good old-fashioned live radio -- a real host in a real studio playing recordings she loves, then opening up the mic to tell the audience what they heard and why.  A live broadcast has a certain energy and realness that's hard to duplicate in any other format -- that's what I'm aiming for each week.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, some of WRIR's program hosts (me, for example) are recording their shows at home; others are broadcasting live from their home studios.  I think all of us are looking forward to getting back into Studio A.
