Live Radio -- WRIR 97.3 FM Richmond Indie Radio

Global A Go-Go originates in the studios of WRIR 97.3 FM Richmond Independent Radio in Richmond, Virginia, USA, from which it is broadcast live every Wednesday from 3 to 5 PM Eastern time.  You're looking at WRIR's Studio One, my home for two hours every week.

Richmond Independent Radio's slogan is "radio for the rest of us" and its mission is "to air underrepresented music, news and views to provide a platform for cultural diversity in Richmond."  We broadcast a mix of news, public affairs and music programming 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with a staff of over 150 volunteers.

We're licensed under the FCC's low-power FM (LPFM) program, and we're the only LPFM in the country (as far as we know) that carries programs from Public Radio International and PRX.  We also run Pacifica's Democracy Now!, a wide variety of independently-distributed shows and more than a dozen public affairs programs that are produced right here at WRIR.

All of our music programs are produced locally and originate live in WRIR's studios.  These days it seems nothing is more unrepresented than good old-fashioned live radio -- a real host in a real studio playing recordings she loves, then opening up the mic to tell the audience what they heard and why.  A live broadcast has a certain energy and realness that's hard to duplicate in any other format -- that's what I'm aiming for each week.
