On Saturday, Buzzy Lawler ends the weekly seven-year run of his superb Shake Some Action radio program on WRIR.  With his prior radio experience, jobs at many of Richmond's finest record stores and gigs with a variety of bands, Buzzy immediately gave brand-new, all-volunteer WRIR a greatly needed dose of credibility.

Over the years, his radio show has combined encyclopedic knowledge of 60's and 70's rock music, impeccable taste, and the right amount of discographic information and personal commentary to keep the listener leaning forward.  In a phrase, Shake Some Action has been everything that commercial "classic rock" radio isn't, and ought to be.  And he's set the bar high for the rest of WRIR's DJs.

Buzzy isn't the kind of guy who wants a tribute, but he's getting one from me anyway, in my own unique way.  To celebrate Buzzy's contribution to WRIR, this week I'll play music from around the world that has been influenced by the 60's and 70's sounds Buzzy has championed on WRIR, especially psychedelic and garage rock.  Rock on, Buzzy!
