WRIR's Afropop Dance Thang, Saturday November 11

Hey, if you're in Richmond this weekend here's an event you might want to check out: a rare public sighting of the Global A Go-Go Sound System.

DJ Graybeard of WRIR's The Other Black Music and The Motherland Influence and I will be spinning an evening's worth of our favorite African dance music. We're calling the event the Afropop Dance Thang -- it's happening Saturday November 11 at Studio Two Three, 3300 W. Clay Street in Scott's Addition. Here's our Facebook Event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/178133479408937

Music starts at 7 PM and we'll keep spinning until 11, playing nothing but the best music from across Africa and across the decades for your listening and dancing pleasure. Admission is $5, all ages are welcome, we'll have a cash bar and a big dance floor. All proceeds go to benefit two organizations I think are worthy of your support: Studio Two Three, Richmond's non-profit space for making art and WRIR, your community radio station. Even better, it's going to be a fun time!

It's the first open-to-the-public event in Studio Two Three's brand-new expanded space. In case you didn't know, the studio has recently doubled its square footage by taking over the adjacent car repair shop. It doesn't look like a garage any more -- come check out what they've done and what's they're doing.

I hope to see you there, and spread the word!
