Quiero Creedence

ARTIST: various artists
TITLE: Quiero Creedence
LABEL: Concord Picante
Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) isn’t just a mainstay of American “classic rock” – they’ve long been huge south of the border as well. Here’s a clever project that brings top Latin rock and pop acts together with the CCR material they grew up listening to. Most of my favorite tracks here play it pretty straight: for example, Mexican superstar Juan Gabriel’s version of “Have You Ever Seen The Rain?” (3) adds some mariachi guitars and fiddles, but you’ll recognize the song right away. Los Lobos, a natural for this project, take on a deep cut in “Bootleg” (2). Spanish rock en espanol star Enrique Bunbury delivers a soulful version of “Run Through The Jungle” (1). Argentina’s Los Enanitos Verdes take a Cramps-like turn (half 50s, half punk rock) on “Travelin’ Band” (14). And the odd couple of Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top) and La Marisoul (La Santa Cecilia) roar through a bilingual version of “Green River” (12). For something a little different, try Bang Data’s rap-rock approach to “Fortunate Son” (9) and don’t miss their stellar video, which features one of those Donald Trump pinatas. Great project – nice job by all involved.
